Spousal Support

SPOUSAL SUPPORT

Spousal support, otherwise known as maintenance and formerly known as alimony, is court ordered financial support paid by one spouse to the other upon dissolution of the marriage. Spousal support is awarded based on the needs of one spouse and the ability of the other spouse to pay. When determining support, the courts factor in the duration of the marriage, the income and property of each spouse, the health and age of each spouse, and the standard of living established during the marriage.

Spousal support can be especially helpful for spouses who may have stopped working during their marriage and who were dependent on the other spouse’s income. Spousal support can also be helpful for spouses who might not be in good enough health to financially support themselves. If you feel that you’re entitled to support, we will advocate on your behalf to ensure that you receive the support you deserve.
